Research
The Authority is involved in ongoing Road Safety Research, including the following:
• Contributing to the monitoring of the current Road Safety Strategy (2007-2012).
• 'Before' and 'After' analysis of Road Safety Remedial Measures Schemes, on an annual basis.
• 'Before' and 'After' analysis of Traffic Calming Schemes, on an annual basis.
• Development of GIS interface for identifying Collision Clusters, both on national and non-national roads.
• Participation in EuroRAP - the European comparative Road Safety Performance project. Publish new Risk Map in 2007/08 and 2010/11.
• Participation in CEDR (Conference of European Directors of Roads) Road Safety Sub-Committee
• Participation in SUPREME ‘Summary and publication of Best Practices in Road Safety in the EU member states’
• Research into safety issues at junctions on rural roads.
• Research into Forgiving Roadsides.
• Development of Collision Reporting Mechanisms with An Gardai and LA’s.
• Identification of speed related collision clusters for An Gardai.
