Road Safety Audits
Road safety audit involves the evaluation of road schemes during design and construction to identify potential hazards that may affect any type of road user, and the appropriate measures to eliminate or mitigate any such hazards.
Road safety audit procedures are incorporated into the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges which became the design standard for National Roads in early 2001.
All works that involve a permanent change to the existing layout of a National Road require a road safety audit.
The NRA have just completed an extensive review of the Road Safety Audit Standards (NRA HD 19/09) - they were issued in February 2009.
