N7 Travel Time Pilot Launch

The National Roads Authority have today launched an N7 Travel Time Pilot system. The N7 Travel Time pilot is an innovative project utilising roadside vehicle detection units to measure and disseminate real-time travel time information to road users travelling between Rathcoole and the M50 on the city-bound section of the N7.
The real-time information will then be imparted to the road-user predominantly through two roadside VMS (Variable Message Signs).
For pre-trip information users will be able to subscribe through the website to an email/SMS service giving those users advanced notice of traffic conditions along that section. The associated website will be an integral part of the system’s interface with the public.
This system is a pilot system and will largely operate in autonomous mode. It is hoped, following feedback from this system, that similar systems can be deployed on other sections of the road network in the future.
